Students learn to plan ahead, recognize patterns, analyze different positions, and make thoughtful moves. They also learn valuable lessons in sportsmanship, confidence, time management, and how to learn from mistakes.
Children learn the rules of the game, including check, checkmate, castling and stalemate, and how to play a full game with confidence.
Children learn to spot forks, pins and simple checkmates, and how to combine moves to win material or gain an advantage.
Children learn how to set up the board correctly and how each piece moves and captures.
